PSA regarding the BS in the NZ.

Most of you Tumblrites have heard in the news about the earthquake that struck Christchurch, NZ, yesterday. I want to let everyone know that I am in Wellington and wasn’t affected by the shocks. My building is also relatively stable. Be cool.

If people are not aware, at 12:51pm NZT yesterday, an earthquake only 5km deep and measuring 6.3 on the richter scale rocked Christchurch, the epicentre mere tens of kilometers from the CBD. The tremors could be felt as far as the University of Otago, on the southern most point of the island. The PM have declared a state of emergency and powers have been enacted to the Civil Defense Minister to help alleviate the stress, panic and reparations of this disaster.

It’s been a buzz in my uni hostel. So far, the death toll stands at approximately ninety, with only fifty-five confirmed and identified, twenty unidentified and another fifteen confirmed to be buried under the rubble of one of Christchurch’s most prominent high-rises, which simply collapse with the quake. The tally of missing people is about three hundred, and steadily rising.

The most horrific sight is the cathedral. What once was a beautiful landmark has been literally ripped to pieces by the quake. There was roughly twenty people inside, with one confirmed fatality. But the landmark and beacon of the City of Churches has been reduced to a crumbling form of its glory. Just like the rest of the city.

I may be fine, but the people in Christchurch are not. My thoughts are with them, and I’ll try to keep you guys as updated as I can with shoddy university internet.
